When Parenting is Hard

When Parenting Feels Hard

Scripture: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7

Parenting can be one of the greatest blessings God gives us, but it can also be one of the most incredibly challenging blessings. There are days when you don’t know what to say, what decision to make, or how to help your child. Sometimes you may feel like you’re failing. Other times you may find yourself carrying worries, frustration, guilt, or even grief over decisions your child is making.

But the truth is you were never meant to parent alone.

God knows the challenges you face as a parent. He sees the sleepless nights, the difficult conversations, the tears you don’t let anyone see, and the prayers you whisper when you don’t know what else to do. He doesn’t expect you to have all the answers. He invites you to bring all your burdens to Him.

One of the hardest lessons of parenting is learning that you can guide your children, but you can’t control their choices. You can teach them God’s word. You can demonstrate love and grace. You can establish boundaries. You can pray faithfully. But ultimately, they have their own choices to make.

That can be frightening - but it can also be an invitation to trust God more deeply.

When parenting becomes difficult, resist the temptation to measure your success by your child's behavior. Instead measure your faithfulness by your willingness to keep loving, praying, teaching, forgiving, and pointing them towards Jesus.

And remember, God loves your child more than you do.

When you don’t know what to do, pray.
When you’re frustrated, pause.
When you’re worried, surrender.
When you’ve made a mistake, ask for forgiveness and begin again.
When your child is struggling, don’t give up praying.

You don’t have to be a perfect parent. You just have to be a parent that keeps turning to a perfect God.

Prayer:
Lord,
Parenting can be hard. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed, frustrated, worried, or unsure of what to do. Help me to remember that I do not have to carry these challenges alone. Give me wisdom when I don’t know what to say. Patience when I’m frustrated. Grace when I make mistakes. And strength when I feel exhausted. Help me to release the things that I cannot control and trust You with my children. Teach me to love them well, to lead them towards You, and to faithfully pray for them. Remind me that You love them more than I do.
Amen.

Take Away:
You may not be able to control your child’s choices, but you can faithfully love, pray, guide and trust God with them.
