Feeling Heavy
When Your Heart Feels Heavy
Scripture: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Devotional:
There are seasons in life when your heart feels heavier than your hands can carry. Sometimes you know exactly why - loss, disappointment, conflict, uncertainty, or exhaustion. Other times the weight seems to settle in without a clear explanation. You smile, go through your routine, and keep moving, but inside you feel tired.
The beautiful truth of the gospel is that God never asks us to carry those burdens alone.
Jesus doesn’t say, “Get yourself together, then come to Me.” He simply says, “Come.” Bring the worry. Bring the grief. Bring the unanswered questions. Bring the fear about tomorrow. Bring the weight you’ve been trying so hard to hide.
God isn’t simply intimidated by your heavy heart. In fact, He invites you to exchange it for His peace.
Sometimes we pray expecting God to immediately remove the burden. Sometimes He does. Other times, He strengthens us to carry it one step at a time while reminding us that He is walking beside us. His presence doesn’t always change our circumstances immediately, but it always changes how we walk through them.
When your heart feels heavy, remember this: your feelings are real, but they are not your final destination. God’s love is deeper than your pain, His strength is greater than your weakness, and His hope is stronger than your despair.
Today, don’t focus on carrying tomorrow’s weight. Simply place today’s burden into the hands of the One who has promised never to leave you nor forsake you.
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
My heart feels heavy today, and I don’t have the strength to carry everything on my own. Thank You for inviting me to come to You just as I am. Help me to release my worries, fears, and burdens into Your hands.
Remind me that I don’t have to have all the answers because You already do. Fill my heart with Your peace that goes beyond understanding, strengthen me for today, and help me to trust You with tomorrow.
Thank You for never leaving me, even when life feels overwhelming. Help me rest in Your love and find hope in Your promises.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Reflection Questions:
- What burdens have I been trying to carry on my own?
- Have I truly given this burden to God, or am I picking it back up each day?
- How can I intentionally rest in God’s presence today?
