Family Movie Devotionals: Incredibles 2

One of the main themes in Incredibles 2 is jealousy. While Elasti-Girl goes off to fight crime, Mr. Incredible has to stay home and watch the kids. While his wife gets to go out and do a dream job, Bob has to clean diapers and help with math homework. Anyone can see why this would be frustrating. But what Mr. Incredible does not realize is that his job at home is just as important as the work Elasti-Girl gets to do. It might not be as fun or as exciting, but being a good dad and helping his wife is the most heroic thing he could have done.

There are times in all of our lives where we wish that things were different. We might look around and compare ourselves to other people. Sometimes people have more money or cooler clothes. Sometimes we wish were better looking or more talented. Sometimes our lives seem really crazy, and we wish things would be as easy for us as they are for other people. No matter what you’re jealous of, that jealousy will make us forget about all the good things happening in our lives. And it will distract us from the mission that God has called us on.

God has placed each of us in a specific time and in a specific place for a reason. Sometimes what God has called us to is hard or boring or complicated or scary. It’s easy to get jealous of the lives God has called others to. But we should always remember that God loves us and wants the best for us. Like Mr. Incredible, we have been given an important job to do: to be a light for God in any situation He puts us in. We can rely on His power to help us not to be jealous, but to be thankful for the important mission He has for us.

Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

Pray as a family that God would help you not to be jealous of others. Thank God for all of the great things in your life. Ask for strength to do the important work that God set before you.

About Family Movie Devotionals

These devotionals are resources you can use to teach your kids about Jesus! Movies have a unique ability to connect to and influence children, and we want to use this to advance God's Kingdom. These are designed for you to read with your children after you watch the movie. We pray these will be used to teach children in fun ways that they can easily understand. We hand these out at our monthly Community Movie Nights, where we show a free family-friendly movie (see our events page for upcoming dates).
