God's Perfect Timing by Bart Bartosh

2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance."

As I write this devotional, I keep catching myself looking out the window and watching the first significant rain event that we’ve had here in SW MN in months. I notice the beads of water running down the glass, the sound of raindrops hitting the pavement, that refreshing rain smell that comes with every summer rain. It all hits a little different when we’ve gone so long without it. I know without a doubt, If there had been showers every week, or even every other week, I would not think twice about any of this.

This is a solid reminder that I need the hard times in my life to fully appreciate all the good ones, and even though sometimes I feel like God is “taking too long” or “maybe doesn’t care today”, I should not be trying to count His slowness, but instead take into account the blessings and joy he has provided in my life. God’s timing is perfect, not necessarily convenient, and that is a tough pill to swallow in an age where everything is at our fingertips and instant gratification is a click away. We must be patient and understand that in time, He will make all things right. He loves us, He is here for us, and even though we can’t always see it, he always has our best interests in mind.

God, we thank you for the blessings that you provide in our lives. We worship you today and acknowledge your sovereignty. Please continue to help us put our total faith and trust in you. Amen.
