Praising God in All Situations
"I will bless the Lord at all time; his praise shall continually be in my mouth."
Psalm 34:1
We all go through tough seasons in life. It is inevitable. Some of us are even going through tough seasons DURING our tough seasons and it seems like no matter what we do, it just keeps getting worse. It feels like there is no reason to reach out to anyone to talk about it, because they just won’t get it. So, what’s left to do about it? I suppose we could complain about it, but that would only make us feel better for a hot second. We could also act out about it, but that would most certainly make matters worse. What about this? How about we praise God and see where that leads. Hear me out…
I’m hitting a season in life where I feel like every morning while I am driving to work, I’m thinking about all the challenges, problems, and tense situations that I am going to be facing that day. It has been making the mornings tough, and the rest of the days even tougher. With all the anxiety and stress swirling around in my head, it’s difficult to figure out how to deal with it. Then one morning I had one positive thing pop into my thoughts, and I thought “Man, thank God for that.” That’s when it hit me, that one little positive thing that I can thank God for just took me down one notch on the stress meter. Since then, the drives to work look a little different and the mornings are just a little bit brighter.
There can be great power in praising God in all situations. Even when it feels like there isn’t anything worth giving praise over, start with thanking Him for the breath in your lungs and you might be surprised where you end up.
Prayer: Lord, we can’t always see the sun through all the clouds, but we know that you are always there and we thank you for your love and your never ending grace. Amen.
