Family Movie Devotionals: Frozen 2

In Frozen 2, after Elsa and Olaf are gone, Anna is left alone. She is scared and doesn’t know what to do. Sometimes we can feel like this, too. We all get scared sometimes. We all feel hopeless sometimes. And the only thing we can do in these situations is what Anna sings: do the next right thing. Jesus talks about this in the Bible!

In Matthew 6, Jesus says, “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?... Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Jesus is telling us not to be afraid, because God knows what we need and will provide for us. But that is easier said than done. Sometimes our lives seem so crazy, or our situation seems so hard that we can’t help but be afraid. But in the last verse we read, Jesus gives us practical advice, “don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Jesus is saying to take one step at a time. Don’t be worried about things that are happening tomorrow or next week. You can deal with those things when they’re happening. Just do the next right thing, and Jesus will give you the power and peace to be able to.

Anna sings about this in Frozen 2:
“I won't look too far ahead
It's too much for me to take
But break it down to this next breath, this next step
This next choice is one that I can make
So I'll walk through this night
Stumbling blindly toward the light
And do the next right thing”

Jesus gives us the strength we need for the day we have. When we feel afraid or overwhelmed, just ask Jesus for help to do the next right thing. He will give you the strength you need for the moment you are in.
