How Can I Help You Today? by Jeff Beman
Mark 10:51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
“How can I help you?” We hear this question a lot when we enter a store. Sometimes we are grateful for the help, and sometimes we say “No Thanks. I’m just looking.” In the scripture above, Jesus asked a blind beggar named Bartimaeus: “What do you want me to do for you”? Had Bartimaeus replied “nothing today” or some such thing, he would not have experienced the miracle of the healing power of Christ. But through his faith, he told the Lord his innermost desire; to regain his sight.
We have the same opportunities that Bartimaeus had. We can faithfully ask our Lord to have mercy on us, tell him what we would have him do for us, and expect it to be granted (Matthew7:7). IF we ask it in the proper manner and belief (James 4:3).
Or we can say: “No thanks, Lord….just looking."
