Lord Willing by Jeff Beman

Proverbs 19:21 21, "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand."

James 4:15, "Instead you ought to say,  If the Lord wills, we will live and
do this or that.”

I had a good friend named Danny a few years ago. We met in church and spent time together mentoring each other for a season. He eventually moved away to follow his career, but before he left, he taught me some things. One thing was that Danny always would reply to any planning for the future with the phrase “Lord Willing”.

Because of my friendship with him, I learned to think this way also. Our plans and wishes for ourselves are paltry and insignificant compared to the will and plans of our all-knowing and omnipotent God. It may be that what I want goes along with what He wants. Or it may not. Jesus prayed that same thought…” yet not my will (Father), but yours”. Both Jesus and my friend Danny spent time asking the will of God, but were willing to accept his answer, regardless. And I am working on it.
