Doing "Good" by Mike Moore

I was recently reminded of a quote from John Wesley;
“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”

I don’t know for sure but I would bet he got some of his inspiration from Galatians 6:9-10 which reads in the ESV: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

We are entering the season where it is a little easier to, “do good.” We receive cards and letters in the mail along with emails and  texts asking for us to be generous and give of our resources, to support the efforts of people who are doing good. People seem to be a little bit more willing to open their pocketbooks (or their Venmo accounts) during the holidays.

The verses just prior to this teach us that we will reap what we sow. Whether it is our time, talents, energy, possessions or our money, we are urged to use them for good. How we use our resources validates where our priorities are.  And we are to do good as we have opportunity, as we are living our lives. And not just to those we like. We are told to do good to
everyone.

We are to be generous people, looking for ways to give of ourselves. Not just during the holidays, but every day, “as long as ever you can.”
